These are compelling strips. I get them everyday :). Two of my personal dogs (as opposed to the rescue dogs) are from puppy mills :(. I am so glad they are with me. In fact, I want to "adopt" two of my rescue dogs, too - old beautiful Betty Boop (Beagle/Basset mix) and young Justus, Black & Tan Coonhound mix. Sigh. So many dogs, so many books, so many patients....

Puppy mills are an atrocity. We have a problem here wif backyard breeders, too.

GRRH recently rescued 7 puppies (3 were 4 weeks old, 4 were 4 weeks old), a 6 month old, 4 adult females and 1 male (stud)... from a backyard breeder who was being evicted.

First, healthy Goldens in normal conditions, typically have more than 3 or 4 puppies in a litter. Second... all 7 puppies had varying degrees of "flat puppy" syndrom. We don't think they had ever been off of the concrete slab they were born on...

GRRH is following frew wif ALL of the necessary surgeries required to correct life's unfortunate consequences for these puppies. And of course, some of the adults were heartworm positive... so we're takin care of that, too.

Me and the Mom will never understand why some peoples don't "get it".

Adoption RULES. Second Lives ROCK.

I'm all for adoption and selective, responsible breeding. This world has no place for puppy mills. Dogs are much more than just an economic item. To me, it's like selling a child.. terrible.

Hope more people are aware of the nasty puppy mills and support the move of closing them down.

More adoptions and let the doggies and kitties find their homes too!!!

This post wins!

Although, I is 'bought' but not from a puppy farm. Sadly most rescues here have very strict rules. Like pawrents cannot work, or rent a house, or be a certain age, or have bunny rabbits. So Mum chose to go the respectable breeder route. We hope when I get a fur sibling we can get accepted for a rescue though.

I completely agree with you, with one exception. There are breeders out there who are making it their life's mission to try to breed lines of dogs that do not have the health problems that hound so many of our beloved dogs.

I've found a couple of those breeders, who are using DNA testing, other medical tests, and very careful record-keeping to try to go further than the AKC ever will in producing healthy puppies. I think that these breeders are worth supporting.

Without the alternative of these extraordinary breeders, I would see adoption as the only moral choice. So, I whole-heartedly agree with your message.
