No matter how many times I watch this I am always fascinated. Now I know why my dogs make so much noise when they drink and why the floor is so wet! I need to cut them some slack☺Getting a sip of water is hard work!

How our dogs are put together is absolutely fascinating

Cute video - and it sure isn't the way most humans think we slurp up our water.
Woos ~ Phantom, Thunder, and Ciara
Wow, that is so interesting. They do make a mess, but they have to! You should see our pack when they come in from playing in the yard (they won't drink the outside water unless it's straight from the hose) they form a line and drink two at a time, well, unless Charlie is drinking and nobody wants to drink with or after him. LOL
Yes, people don't realize that most of the water gets into the mouth on the 'back side' of the tongue that is curled under...it's that way with cats, too...

Over the years, this term has come to mean many things:
"drippy lips"
- the act of a dog drinking
- the bowl of water
- the spots on the floor after the fact
- that face and muzzle after a good drink laid upon your lap
Great video, that was indeed interesting
It's strange to see that slowly! LOL!
Great video! It is very interesting to watch how they drink...it is a job for them! Lots of love, Debbie and Holly
Wow! That video is almost hypnotic! What a cool shot!
I will makes sure mom sees this so she will knows just how hard it is for me to drinks. Thanks for sharing it.
Woofs and Licks,
Maggie Mae
Great video! Thanks for sharing!
Finally they have a reason to make a mess in my kitchen!! :-P THANKS for posting this, it was so interesting that I watched it twice.
That whole process just seems so darn counter productive, doesn't it? Why don't their tongues curl up? Huh....very strange. God knew what would work I guess. You're right, a dog cannot get a drink without leaving puddles galore!
Wait - this is all wrong. Why aren't there two paws in the bowl at the same time? That is the way Cheoah drinks.
What a great video.:)
Love,
Teddy Bear
I always thought the water went on top...how neat.
Cool video and interesting

That still doesn't explain how Monty floods half the kitchen when he drinks! BOL! Great video, though!
Sam
Whew! That truly is incredible! I'd heard that they do that, but hadn't seen it portrayed like this before...fascinating. (The prospective vet was also enthralled!) THanks for posting!
Sending lotsaluv

That's a great video. When Tsar was younger, he used to dunk his face in the water bowl and blow bubbles. It was so funny we had to laugh and that encouraged him. What a mess he made.
Next time Mommy complanes about me getting water all over the kitchen floor, I'm gonna make her come back & see this video.
Mommy cried reading your post about the blind doggie. DROH had several doggies that were blind aqnd theyall found loving homes with wonderful people. Mommy would like to buy the book about Michael Vick but money is very tight right now. Mommy paid for my Tiger's emergecny roon visit because Miss Sandra didn't have any Saqndra didn't have any money and he is after all my love. If you haven'd read yestrday's post yet, Shelby is pregnant so in 2 to 3 weeks so we'll be having puppies running everywhere. Sandra is also pregnant.
God Bless you, Mimi for your continued help and {{{huggies}}} to Scout & Freyja
