Every living being has value - nothing should ever be FREE - NEVER!
Years ago a friend of mine in animal rescue told me that you should NEVER offer any living being for FREE. If something is free you are telling the world that the life has no value and can be discarded or mistreated or abused or tortured.
My friend in rescue would scour the newspapers for 'free to good home' ads and would take as many of those puppies and kittens and adult cat and dogs into her rescue to re-home them (after spay and neuter and inoculations) as possible. She also charged those who wanted to adopt from her rescue a nominal fee believing that if they didn't have the money to pay for the adoption then they wouldn't have the money for good food and veterinary care (if needed).
She was right and I will never, ever forget all I learned from her. She is at the Bridge now surrounded by all of those furry souls that she ushered into a better life when here on earth. Please, never, ever put the value on a living, breathing being as FREE. All living beings have value. None is better than the rest or more valuable than the others.

That is the philosophy shared by the Helen Woodward Animal Center in CA, they will not give the pets away, as they are alive and the prospective adoptees need to know that they have value.
Your friend sounds like she was a great person.

I wish I had know your friend. She and you are so correct.
I know your friend was a wonderful lady who loved the animals and they all loved her.
Once you told me of a dear friend who was friends of all animals.
I never forgot when you told me.
I wonder if this is that lady

That is a wonderful post about your friend. She would be surrounded by animal friends for sure. No worries, and love, Stella and Rory
This is so true. Every life has value. Respect and care comes only when that worth is recognized.
I always get so upset when I see Free ads on Craigslist. We always call on all the Weimaraners and tell them about the dogs being used as bait dogs, etc but some people just don't seem to care. I don't get it. :(
