It is with deep sadness that we must tell you that the LUKE has passed away...

I just received this message from the Luke's Auntie Karen:

Amanda is so blessed to have such wonderful support and friends all over the Country.  It is with great sadness that I have to tell you that Luke lost his battle this morning.  With his precious Mom by his side, Uncle Tom, Aunt Karen and the wonderful Dr. Mark in the room we said good bye to this beautiful boy.  I know he will live on forever in our hearts.  I can just see him at the rainbow bridge now telling all the other dogs his story....and what a story!  Luke was a wonderful sweet golden he will be missed by us all.

Thank you for being such a wonderful friend to Amanda, she appreciates everyones thoughts and prayers.  I know she will get back with all of her bloggers...she does miss everyone, she just needs a little time.  All the cards of well wishes will be much appreciated.  Luke was loved by all I know that will help her deal with his loss.

Keep in touch and thank you for all you do for animal rescue and for my dear friend,

Karen

Your cards and letters are even MORE imPAWtant now that the Luke has gone to Heaven. They will help the Mom and the Bleu work through their immense grief. We will look outside tonight in the midnight sky for the Luke's star - it will be the biggest and brighest - we know that in our hearts.

Our momma will be making a donation this evening to Golden Retriever Rescue of Houston in the Luke's name to honor sharing his life as a rescue with all of us in blogger-land.

Good-bye dear friend, we will NEVER forget your gentle presence in our lives

As we already shared, we are too numb to really say much now -

We knew it was coming but....

The candle is lit -

He was already going to be included in my transport dedication for Sunday - now it will take on an entirely different 'light' -

Mimi et al,
You all are wonderful support for Amanda and Bleu. The entire Blog process facilitates the most important thing of all - relationships. While it is great to people to people relationships, there is nothing like the special bond with your pet and it really seems like a rescued pet is even more bonded and appreciative to share unconditional love. Cool Hand Luke displayed this totally in his devotion and appreciation of The Mom. Amanda mentioned Saturday that Luke rescued her. I think many of us feel that way. CHL arrived in heaven 2 1/2 years ago when Amanda applied to adopt a Golden Retriever puppy from GRRH. At nine years young, Luke had just been rescued from eleven months lost in the system at a shelter in Waco. On the trip from Waco to Houston, Luke amazingly wrote his own bio and he did it as if he was born again. Voila, it was perfect when CHL adopted Amanda. It was meant to be and such a delight to witness every time we were together. Thanks for your fantastic supporto of Amanda. As you well know, she is very special. Luke taught us all a great deal. He knew what The Mom did for him and wants her to think of the good times and the love they have shared and will always share. The Bleu is another story and is great comfort at this time. Thanks for all you do and continue to enjoy these rich relationships. Our best to all,
Madison and Tom Whitson, GRRH Volunteers

We are all so very sorry to hear that Luke lost a courageous battle.... We do Luke did win the war though and has proudly crossed over the Rainbow Bridge, and made his way through the gates.
While there is sadness here on Earth, there is joy in Heaven, when he joins the other furbabies.Praying for your peace and healing.....
