When they leave us behind - we MUST remember the love - for that is their legacy

We've lost some larger-than-life K-9 friends these past days and we stand to lose more in the near future. What they leave behind for us to remember is much more than we were ever able to give to them when they were here near our feet. Why do we sob so hard that our body feels as though it will burst apart? Why does our heart break so deeply and clearly that cold winds blow through the broken parts? Why do we feel such a deep loss - sometimes much more than when human family members have passed?

Could it be that we will miss that unconditional acceptance and love we experienced with our partner each and every day, when we began our morning - bounding out of bed together- racing to see if the sun was shining or if it had snowed or if the rain would keep us inside - playing games to occupy our minds and to exercise our bodies 'til the sun shone once again? Could it be that we realized that no living being ever loved us as much as our dog?

Large or small. Purebred or mutt. Highly trained or little dickens. We love them and they love us. We form a bond that death cannot penetrate. Our hearts are permanently joined.

Goodbye sweet ones of the past, we mourn you still. Yet, hello, to new life and puppy breath and house training and sleepless nights - hello to the senior in need of a forever home to rest its weary head - for if you truly felt the love and if you truly remember the love - you can never, not in your lifetime, imagine living without the love.

I miss you will my whole heart and soul: Rusty, Danny, Chuck, Tony, Willow, Prince, Scottie, Savannah Leigh and Starr. You have left a deep brand on my heart - a scar I wear with pride and honor. One that I am proud to bear and proud to share and eager to receive again when the time is right and your spirit leads me to the next journey I am fated to take with another of your kind.

Goodbye dogs of my past - of our past - hello to the dogs of the future - born and unborn - sheltered or stray. Have no fear for I will find you and you will find me when the time is right and when the twinkling dog stars of the Universe lead us to each other - where we will form our eternal bond and continue the Circle of Life with each other.

The high cost of off-shore drilling - the victims of greed

Each time I see a suffering bird or a fish gasping for air or a sea turtle whose life has ended before its time or the faces of fishermen who realize that their way of life may be gone for decades, my heart breaks. Each time I see more oil washing onto the pristine shores of the Gulf Coast, I cry. The wildlife, the inhabitants of the Gulf Coast, the creatures of the sea - all are helpless victims of big oil greed; of failed legislation; of politics and politicians gone wrong; of morality that ceased to exist long ago and far away.

I cry for our planet. I cry for what we, mankind, have done to the sea, land and air. I sob for the helpless wildlife that we have maimed as a result of our ignorant thinking and unbridled greed. We don't own this planet. We don't own one grain of sand on any beach or on any dune. Without us and without our footprint in the sand, our planet would thrive.

It would grow and 'be' just as it was meant to be - pure and with a natural plan and without the need to kill wolves or bears that encroach on 'our' space. There would be no miserable shark finning - dumping live animals back into the sea - left to drown - without their fins - bleeding and helpless - for want of an expensive bowl of soup. There would be no Chinese meat markets filled with skinned dogs and cats or ground tiger bone hawked as a sexual enhancement or endangered sun bear gonads or elephant tusks tossed into bins in Asian pharmacies - promising medicinal cures that aren't to be. Women and men wouldn't wear the fur of another living being. Eagle eggs wouldn't be so frail that they couldn't hold a chick until birth. The whales would swim free to live complete lives - not ones cut short by Japanese fishermen who say they harpoon those gentle beings for 'research'.

We are but passing through this Universe and what we leave in our wake is what will speak for us. What we leave behind is what will tell those who come after us of our humanity - or lack of it; of our compassion - or lack of it; of our consideration of others - or lack of it; of our legacy to those who inhabit the future - of lack of it.
Add ImageI am ashamed to be human. I kneel before God and bow my head before all of the creatures of this earth and beg forgiveness for the transgressions of mankind for there is NOTHING KIND about being a part of man.

Make Sale of Crush Videos Illegal Again! Help us fight animal suffering and exploitation. Sign the petition now!

Goal: 30,000 • Progress: 6,285
Sponsored by: ASPCA

On April 20, the Supreme Court of the United States ruled in U.S. v. Stevens that the "Crush Act," a 1999 federal law banning the creation, sale and possession of materials depicting genuine acts of animal cruelty, is unconstitutional and over-broad in its scope.

H.R. 5092 will help ensure that the crush video industry is not revitalized in the absence of any enforceable federal law. Add your voice to the cause! Join the ASPCA in urging the U.S. House of Representatives to support legislation that amends the Crush Act. Go here and SIGN NOW!
